​Working in the crowd costume department primarily on set as crowd standby, dressing for crowd but also working on get ins/outs, assistance in crowd fittings, with alterations, costume maintenance and in the warehouse.

Outlander Season 4 - LBP Ltd. – Trainee Costume Daily in Dye and Breakdown

 August 2017.

​Working under Kate Thomson I completed tasks in transforming canvas to depict leather through waxing and binder application, deteriorated traditional block printing onto large petticoats and colour matching leather skins to their fur with binders. All tasks were conducted in large numbers for crowd costumes.

​I crafted props and dance accessories from Raffia and gold fabrics to embellish the action and scenery as well as assisting with some costume maintenance/mending.

Working primarily in the Crowd Costume Department and under designer Jane Petrie, I learnt and exercised various skill-sets, examples listed here: Crowd Costume Pairing, sizing and fitting. Laundry and maintenance, on set Continuity and filing, Returns to hire houses, Alterations, Secretarial work (Budget sheets/Petty Cash), organisation of costume pieces for designer's selection, Screen-Printing and colour restoration of Vintage Royal Costumes.

October 2016.

​Historical representation of slavery in the Scottish Highlands. Under Costume Designer Ali Mitchell I learnt and exercised traditional Nigerian Tied Adire Oniko Textile Dyeing using Indigo Dye.

 

The Northleach Horror (Short Film) - Plum Films - Textile Artist

January 2016.

​Under costume designer Ali Mitchell, I worked mostly on breakdown and special effects specific to the costume, as well as being a general assistant. Specific jobs entailed the invention and creation of removable bullet holes/wounds, metal and cloth breakdown and detailing (glasses, belt and garments) and gore/explosion breakdown.

 

National Galleries Scotland - Roy Lichtenstein Dance Collaboration - Costume Designer and Maker

Ballet/Contemporary dance. Collaborative Dancer: Joao (John) Costa

September 2015 - December 2015.

After study on the exhibited work of Roy Lichtenstein at the Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh and further research into the life and psychology, I Worked with collaborative dancer John Costa's and his choreography to designed and made costumes to enhance his self-exploratory movement in comfort and design, but also with creative tools for dance exploration.

 

Snow White - BalletLORENT- Textile Artist and Junior Costume Maker

Costume Designer: Libby Everall.

July 2015 - September 2015.

​Under costume designer Libby Everall I designed and handmade 16 character costume pieces for dancers aged around 5-6 performing as woodland creatures. The costumes were made to suit children’s sensitivities, were durable and easily put on- to tour for years with a changing cast. This work followed on by assisting Libby Everall and the company in rehearsals- in costume fittings.

SKILLS OBTAINED IN MASTERCLASSES

Janet Brown Breakdown Masterclass

May 2016

From Theatre Designer and Collaborative Textile Artist Janet Brown I took a masterclass in costume breakdown (for both film and theatre). The work was for her current project: historical recreations about The Herring Girls (Gutting Quines) travelling from Scotland across the UK.  I learnt of techniques and tools, industry standard products, thrifty safe materials for use on a budget and materials that achieve the same visuals but without the permanency. Garments broken down included: heavy canvas dungarees and worker dress', PVC aprons, waxed fabrics, wellingtons, scarves. 

 

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

​Professional skills:

  • Innovative, intellectual conceptually driven costume designer, experienced in and passionate about working on fantasy, science-fiction and historically accurate projects for film, music video and dance.

  • Strong skills in contemporary and historical pattern cutting and costume construction skills; from full drafting, scaling to pattern adaptation. Particular strengths lie in historical cutting and making (historical range 1500-1900).

  • Extremely confident in the use of industrial sewing machines, overlockers and irons with a high quality finish.

  • Extensive knowledge and ability in Digital Print design, layout, presentation and Technical Drawing skills with the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).

  • Strong, neat, functional and thorough organisational skills.

  • Notably keen, thorough and heavily reliable research skills, particularly in historical costuming and anthropology.

  • Superior textile design and application for costume, with strong textile skills in the following areas:  Printing- Silk screen, digital printing, block, heat transfer, sublimation etc..

  • Skills in fabric dyeing- Fibre (Procion), Heat Transfer (Disperse/Sublimation), Acid Dyes, Vegetable/Rust Dyes, Shibori, Leather Dyeing, Hair/Fur dyeing etc..

  • Constructed textiles- (knit, felting) experienced weaver and in handling raw fleece.

  • Embellishment- (beading, fabric detailing) Very experienced embroiderer.

  • Fabric manipulation- (cartridge pleating, gathering, pintucks, fold detailing etc.) Experienced in contemporary quilting and smocking and patchwork.

  • Contemporary textile skills- laser cutting, metal work, digital printing, vacuum moulding etc.

  • Experience in collaboration with directors, designers, dancers and cast working under timeframes, conceptual, budgeting and visual restrictions to create original and functioning design.

  • Experience working as a costume team to resolve design solutions and problem solving in construction/wardrobe management.

  • Experience designing and making for dance.

  • Experience designing for a child cast- creating pieces that don’t irritate, restrict and are easily put on and durable.

  • Wardrobe maintenance- costume adjustments, mending, pressing, storing, pairing, measuring, fitting and pre-setting.

  • Costume dressing- for film and theatre, with high numbers and fast changes.

  • Experience designing scale set design (and modelling) to coincide with costume and performance.
